Winterization and repair solve different problems

A sprinkler blowout prepares an irrigation system for winter. A repair addresses a fault, such as a leak, damaged head or zone that will not operate. A system can need both. When requesting service in Kuna, explain any known problems so they can be considered before the appointment is confirmed.

When a blowout request is the right starting point

If your system operated normally during the watering season and you need fall shutdown, start with a Kuna sprinkler blowout request. Share your zone count if you know it, the water source, connection points and controller access. You can submit the request even when you do not know the zone count. Lawn square footage is not required for this request.

Ask what the visit includes. Drip lines, separate irrigation sections, backflow assemblies and unusual connections may need particular handling. Confirm whether any of these change the scope or price.

When to mention a repair first

  • A zone does not start or stop as expected.
  • You have noticed pooling, broken heads or a suspected underground leak.
  • The controller has a fault or the valve locations are unknown.
  • A previous freeze may have damaged an exposed component.

Describe what you observed, where it happened and whether the water is currently on. A sprinkler repair assessment can clarify the work required. Winterization is not a promise to diagnose or repair every existing fault, and repair parts are not automatically included in a blowout estimate.

Cost and scheduling

5-zone residential system: $115 - $140 using the current estimator, before any recurring discount. Online figures are planning estimates. Confirm the scope and final price before authorizing work. Repairs, unusual access and additional work require a separate agreement.

Request fall availability before freezing weather. October and early November are planning windows, not guaranteed safe dates. Your irrigation shutoff, forecast, access and route availability determine the appointment.

Tell the provider about locked gates, pets, parking and access to the controller and shutoff. Agree on who will prepare each part of the system. A quote request does not reserve a date until an appointment has been confirmed.

Use the system instructions

Hunter recommends professional winterization and explains that trapped water can damage pipes and backflow components when it freezes. See Hunter's winterization guidance. Follow the instructions for the actual components installed at your property.
